‘I want to play’ – Kane reveals what he does with hat-trick as England hero breaks more records

Harry Kane revealed what he does with his hat-trick balls as the striker was proud to send more records tumbling in an England shirt.

Kane broke the record for most goals scored in a calendar year as he hit four against San Marino.

The Spurs star broke the previous tally of 12 – held by Dixie Dean (1927), George Hilsdon (1908) and himself in 2019 – by notching his 16th England goal on 2021.

He also became the first person to score four in an England game since Ian Wright in 1993, who also hit four against San Marino.

The 28-year-old took his total England tally to 48 and level with Gary Lineker, with the Spurs star now just five now off matching Wayne Rooney’s total of 53.

“It’s fantastic. I always say these are the bonuses that come with the games when you are winning and scoring goals,” Kane told talkSPORT.

“To be up there with the names you are up there with, it’s fantastic. Every time I wear an England shirt, I’m proud, and every time I score, it’s one of the greatest feelings of my career.

“I hope I can keep doing it for many more years. We’ve obviously got a big year ahead leading up to Qatar.

“Any time I can help the team, I will try and do so. To get the feeling of putting the ball into the back of the net, every striker wants to be doing that. It’s a good feeling.”

Kane has scored hat-tricks in consecutive games for England and has two more balls to add to his collection.

He added: “The ball is nice and safe. Another one to take home. The kids will enjoy it, for sure.

“I put it in a little glass box and keep them. When the kids grow up, hopefully it will give them a bit of motivation.

“It’s nice to have them around the house and remind yourself of what you are doing and what you can achieve.”

His goals helped England secure qualification for Qatar 2022 and Kane was delighted that their place was book for that tournament.

A 10-0 win over minnows San Marino got Gareth Southgate’s side safely over the line.

The striker said: “It doesn’t matter who you are playing, you’ve still got to go out there and perform.

“To score 10 goals in any game shows a great mentality. Delighted for the boys, it’s been a fantastic camp.

“We have finally officially qualified for the World Cup, so we can enjoy it.”

He added: “I said at the start of the week, I want to play every minute of every game. That’s the mentality I have.

“Obviously the gaffer controls that, but I will always be available for any match. The gaffer makes the decision and I will respect that no matter what he does.

“We still needed a point officially to qualify and I was using that as a little advantage at the start of the game.

“Your career goes quick, your England career goes quick, so I don’t want to miss any opportunities.

“Thankfully he gave me the nod tonight and I was able to secure a few goals.”
