In a recent press conference held during Denmark’s national team campaign, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg opened up about his current situation at Tottenham Hotspur. With just 156 minutes of playtime this season and no Premier League starts under the new coach Ange Postecoglou, Højbjerg has found himself on the fringes of the squad.
In his own words, Højbjerg stated, “I follow the path of the coach and the team, and fortunately there has been a good tone throughout, and as such there has been no problem from some of the sides. Fortunately, there is a great understanding that the only thing that is important are the tasks that lie ahead for the team and the club.”
Despite the challenging situation, Højbjerg emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive relationship with the coaching staff and respecting the decisions made. He pointed out the good communication between him and the club’s coaching staff, expressing his determination to regain his place in the team. Højbjerg noted, “There has been a good dialogue throughout, and there has been great respect for both parties. In the end, the most important thing, and I have made this very clear to the coach and the club, is that I have to show my best side and deserve what I get from playing time.”
Acknowledging his current absence from the starting lineup, Højbjerg remained pragmatic, saying, “Right now I am not among the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to show my best side if the coach points to me.”
While Højbjerg seeks to make his mark at Tottenham, he has an exciting international schedule ahead. He is expected to start for Denmark in their upcoming matches against San Marino and Finland, both of which are crucial for their qualification for the Euro.
