‘He needs to get out’ – Reporter says Conte thinks Tottenham 24-year-old is quite limited

Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has been speaking about Joe Rodon and his current standing at Tottenham, writes the HITC.

Rodon signed for Spurs last summer, but he’s not really made much of an impact in north London as of yet.

Whether it’s been under Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte, Rodon has been unable to bed himself into the starting XI at Spurs.

Unfortunately for Rodon, Conte isn’t sold on the Welshman, with Thomas claiming that the Italian believes the centre-half is limited to only being able to play in the centre of his back three system.

Thomas shared what he knows about Rodon and how Conte views him.

“Tottenham play three centre-halves and they don’t have a plethora of options do they? If there’s any centre-half that could go it would be Joe Rodon on loan, I think that could be one towards the end of the window. He needs to play and Antonio sees him as only being able to play in the middle of the three apparently is what I’ve been told, and Dier has that position assured, so he needs to get out,” Thomas said.

Sadly for Rodon, it seems as though he’s not a good fit for Antonio Conte’s system at Spurs.

The Italian only really has room for one old-school centre-half in his system, and sadly, as Thomas says, Eric Dier seems to be the firm first-choice in that area.

Rodon, at the age of 24, is still very young, so he may be able to develop other parts of his game in the coming years, but right now, it does seem as though a loan move is the best thing for him.
