Jermain Defoe said after the first match of the new season that Eric Dier looks very slender and confident in Antonio Conte’s system of play.
The former striker said Dier needs to score more and make use of missed chances. The goal against Southampton was the Englishman’s first in three years.
Defoe also did not fail to praise Spurs’ January transfer Dejan Kulusevski, who again showed his best qualities in the home game.
“The ball is brilliant (for Kulusevski’s assist). “The ball goes out wide, there is only one thing on his mind, to get on his left foot and whip it across what I like to call that red zone.
Defoe on Dier: “It’s a great goal. He should be scoring more because of his presence. But he looks confident and he looks lean in that system. It’s so perfect for him. I am sure he will get more goals.”
