Harry Winks has been turned down by one Premier League club – report

Leeds United have turned down the chance to take Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks on loan, according to The Athletic.

Winks has been on the bench in each of Spurs’ two Premier League games so far this season, but he started both legs of the Europa Conference League play-off against Pacos de Ferreira.

The 25-year-old was involved in the build-up to Harry Kane’s opener in the second leg on Thursday night, making a fine tackle before threading a pass through to Bryan Gil, who set up Kane to score.

However, it seems Tottenham are happy to lose Winks in the current window – or at least they were at some point.

The Athletic’s Leeds United reporter Phil Hay has claimed the Yorkshire club were offered Winks on a season-long loan but turned down Spurs’ approach.

That means Winks is probably likely to stay at Tottenham for at least one more season, despite the fact he is behind the likes Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Dele Alli in the central midfield pecking order.

Our take? Winks struggled for form last season but he isn’t a bad character to have around the place and will come in useful in the Conference League.
