Guardiola reportedly wants 6ft 2in Kane alternative who “will become a world class player”

Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Darwin Nunez, a player who has been tipped for stardom.

According to The Athletic, the Citizens hierarchy has the Benfica striker on their shortlist.

Given Sergio Aguero left the Etihad at the end of last season, Pep Guardiola could do with a new striker.

The Athletic claims Harry Kane is the Manchester City top target but negotiating with Spurs is never an easy task.

But Nunez is also an exciting proposition and Manchester City fans should be excited about speculation linking their club with the Uruguayan.

The 6ft 2in ace is a top talent who is expected to grow into a world class player.

Nunez became Benfica’s club-record signing last summer when the Portuguese outfit spent £20.5million (Goal.com) to land his signature.

The 22-year-old had previously shone at Almeria, scoring 16 goals and claiming two assists from 30 Spanish second-tier games.

And prior to that, Nunez came through the ranks at Penarol, where he won the Uruguayan league title in 2018.

Admittedly, the striker struggled a little in his maiden season in Portugal amid injury and illness issues.

He got 14 goals from 44 appearances, including nine in the Primeira Liga, but he did also register 12 assists in all competitions.

In addition, he has won four caps for Uruguay, netting twice – not a bad CV for someone who’s just turned 22.

Nunez’s contract with Benfica is reportedly worth £37,000-a-week and runs until 2025.
