“Going to be one of England’s best”: Ramsdale thinks Everton player is destined for greatness

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale has claimed that Everton’s Jordan Pickford is destined to be one of the best goalkeepers to ever play for England.

The two English shot-stoppers have been called up to the England squad yet again by Gareth Southgate. Pickford has done well so far this season, while Ramsdale has surprised many by settling into Arsenal brilliantly.

Both goalkeepers will be hoping to make the England number one shirt theirs, but Ramsdale, as competitive as he is, seems more than happy to be Pickford’s understudy and learn from him.

The Arsenal new boy has heaped praise on Pickford, saying he’s going to be one of England’s best-ever goalkeepers. He has labelled him a great guy as well ahead of the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifier against Andorra this weekend.

Asked what it’s like having Pickford around, the Arsenal man said on England’s official YouTube channel: “It’s a great learning curve. Someone who came into the team quite young and experienced and the summer he had at the World Cup cemented himself into the team.

“I think he’s going to be one of England’s best goalkeepers, the success he has had with the football team. What a character he is as well, just a great guy to be around day in day out when you are in camp, he is always making you smile.

“For someone who’s not overly old and is still quite young, he’s always happy to give some tips. It’s great to be here pushing him and he’s someone I’m looking forward to hopefully one day emulate.”

Very few people believed that Ramsdale would be a decent signing for Arsenal, let alone a great one. The Englishman received a ton of criticism even before he joined the Gunners, but he has proven people wrong now.

Ramsdale has conceded just one goal and kept four clean sheets in five appearances for Arsenal so far. That is an excellent record and that could well make a difference for him on the international stage in the coming months.

Pickford is England’s number one and rightly so. He has been brilliant for the Three Lions over the years, but with Ramsdale now pushing for a spot as well, the Everton man can’t really afford to make too many mistakes.
