Gary Neville Thinks Tottenham Hotspur Should Explore a Move for Brendan Rodgers

Former Manchester United player and current football pundit, Gary Neville, believes that Tottenham Hotspur should consider hiring Brendan Rodgers as their new manager. Rodgers has just left his previous role as the manager of Leicester City, after mutually parting ways due to a recent string of disappointing results.

The former Liverpool and Celtic manager had been at Leicester City for four years and achieved remarkable results during his tenure, including winning the FA Cup in 2021. However, the Foxes have been struggling in the Premier League recently, having only earned one point from their last six games, which led to Rodgers’ departure.

Neville, speaking to Sky Sports on April 2, 2023, suggested that Rodgers may have been given a “little nod and a wink” that he could be in the running for the Tottenham job, a position that he has been linked with in the past. According to Neville, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has long admired Rodgers, and this could be the opportunity to finally bring him to North London.

Neville also expressed his surprise that Tottenham recently appointed Cristian Stellini as interim manager until the end of the season, despite the expectation that Antonio Conte’s staff would leave with him. Neville had thought that Mauricio Pochettino or Julian Nagelsmann would have been appointed in Conte’s place.

Tottenham have reportedly been interested in Rodgers for a long time, with Spurs having previously approached him to replace Harry Redknapp back in 2012. Rodgers, however, chose to manage Liverpool instead.

It remains to be seen if Rodgers will be appointed by Tottenham, but Neville believes that this move could be a real possibility. Rodgers is regarded as a talented coach and has had success in the Premier League with both Liverpool and Leicester City, as well as domestically in Scotland with Celtic.
