Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has encouraged Vincent Kompany to reject the opportunity of becoming the new Tottenham Hotspur manager. Despite being a favorite among some Spurs fans, Agbonlahor believes that Kompany should continue his managerial journey with Burnley, where he has made a significant impact in his first season as head coach.
The former Manchester City defender has led the Clarets to the Premier League after gaining promotion with seven Championship games to spare. Kompany has been highly praised by pundits for his managerial abilities and has been labeled a ‘world-beater’ by Johan Boskamp and Ander van der Meyde.
Despite the rumors linking him to the Tottenham job, Agbonlahor believes that Kompany should decline the offer and focus on taking Burnley to new heights. “I can see why they’re looking at Kompany but if I was Kompany, I’d say no. Capital letters, no. He’s got Burnley into the Premier League. Give it a go with Burnley”, he told talkSPORT.
Agbonlahor added that even if Kompany was not able to keep Burnley in the Premier League, he would still attract top-flight jobs due to his impressive managerial work at the club. The former striker suggested that Kompany could bring in new players in the summer transfer window and aim to shock the Premier League, just like Sheffield United and Leeds did in recent years.
Vincent Kompany has been widely praised for his work at Burnley and has proved his worth as a manager. While the Tottenham job may be tempting, it seems that Agbonlahor’s advice is in line with what Kompany should do – continue his managerial journey with Burnley and build on his impressive start to life as a head coach. The 2023/2024 Premier League season will undoubtedly bring new challenges, and Kompany will undoubtedly be up for the task.
