Former Tottenham manager claims his current role is more rewarding as a coach

In conversation with Esquire Italia (h/t Football London), former Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho shared that his current managerial position at AS Roma has been the most rewarding position in years.

The Portuguese manager has won titles across the globe with teams from England, Italy, and Spain. The 58-year-old has also been dubbed as the special one due to his exploits throughout the footballing world. Despite having an impressive resume and a treasure trove of experience, he had to face a difficult time with the Lilywhites.

He could not reach the same kind of glory with Spurs that he achieved with the other clubs that he has coached. The former Chelsea manager spoke about his early days with his new Italian club:

“I feel more like a coach today than 10 or 20 years ago. If a coach doesn’t improve it’s because he has lost the passion and has lost the mentality that helps him improve every day.”

Mourinho has managed to get the Giallorossi off to a flying start, who are situated at 4th position in the Serie A table at the moment. His current side have managed 5 wins and are placed behind Napoli and both the Milan teams. The Portuguese failed to win a single trophy during his time at Tottenham and was removed from the position after 17 months with the north London club.

Ryan Mason took over as the interim manager after the departure of the former Manchester United manager. Nuno Espirito Santo has been brought in at the start of the season to guide the club towards a brighter future. The former Wolves man has also faced some issues at the start of the season but would be hoping to make more of an impact as the season goes on.
