‘For example Ibrahimovic’ – Conte has just hinted what Tottenham’s next signing could be

Tottenham Hotspur have, so far, endured a quiet transfer window but are said to be beavering away in order to help Antonio Conte and his push for Europe, writes the TBR.

Conte’s time as manager has seen some elements of progress. There have been glimmers of the impressive form and performances he brought to Chelsea and Inter Milan. However, there have also been times when things have looked all too familiar. On that basis, Conte is known to be desperate for new signings.

And while Fabio Paratici works away on potential deals, Conte has hinted to the press that he might look for a different type of player in this window. Tottenham, known for signing younger players with long-term upside, could be forced to change tact and look for more experienced players. And it’s something Conte backs.

“When you go to sign experienced players it can help you, it can help the players in the squad. Especially if there are young players without great experience. It is not simple to sign experienced players but at the same time I think there are players who can build something important,” Conte told Football.London.

“For example Ibrahimovic for Milan, a great signing for them. He brought his experience in a group of young players. To help them improve and to teach them how to manage the pressure. For these two reasons you can sign experienced players.”

So far, Tottenham are looking at signing Adama Traore from Wolves in the main. At 25, he is right in the middle of experienced and up and coming. Conte is known to want to strengthen in other areas, too.

This Spurs team have been built over years with a few managers but it lacks any big characters and leaders beyond the likes of Kane and Son. Eric Dier is doing his best, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg tries in the middle. But overall, it’s a squad lacking character.

Conte makes a great point RE Zlatan. Those big personalities can often change a dressing room’s mentality. Conte had a nice mix at Inter, and he’ll be hoping to replicate this at Spurs.
