Fabrizio Romano Says Barcelona Boss Xavi Thinks 27-Year-Old Tottenham Player Is So ‘Underrated’

Xavi Hernandez holds a strong belief that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is an underrated talent in the football world.

Lo Celso, who has been a part of the Spurs squad for over four years, has faced challenges in securing a permanent position as a key player in the team. Despite joining Tottenham from Real Betis in the summer of 2019 with high expectations, the Argentine midfielder has struggled to fulfill the anticipated star status.

During the summer transfer window, Barcelona expressed interest in acquiring Lo Celso’s services, adding to the speculation surrounding his future. The midfielder spent the previous 18 months on loan at Villarreal, leading many to believe that he might be on the verge of leaving Tottenham. However, Spurs ultimately retained him despite the interest from Barcelona.

When questioned about the possibility of a January move to Barcelona for Lo Celso, Fabrizio Romano shed light on Xavi Hernandez’s admiration for the Argentine player. Romano stated, “They discussed this chance to bring in Gio Lo Celso because he is a player I am told is really appreciated by Xavi. Xavi really considers Lo Celso an underrated midfielder with very good skills. He would like to train Gio Lo Celso one day.”

Despite Xavi’s admiration for Lo Celso, Romano downplayed the likelihood of a January transfer. He explained, “It won’t happen next month,” indicating that any potential move would not materialize in the upcoming transfer window.
