Ex-Everton player ready to take temp charge at Goodison with Benitez sack imminent – report

Everton are expected to sack Rafa Benitez before they play Aston Villa next Saturday, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports that ex-Blues striker and current assistant manager Duncan Ferguson is ready to take temporary charge of the Merseyside club.

It is understood that the Toffees have been holding an emergency board meeting after the 2-1 defeat away at struggling Norwich on Saturday with the side now just six points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

It seems as though Evertonians may have their way and Benitez will be sacked after the shocking defeat to Norwich, who are one of the worst Premier League teams we’ve seen in a long time.

Of course, Benitez should never have been hired in the first place and getting rid of him and hiring a manager isn’t going to get to the root cause of all our issues.

Farhad Moshiri has been a terrible owner.

Under his ownership, we’ve reeled through the managers without getting anywhere. We’ve ploughed heaps of cash into adding to the squad without getting anywhere. And now we’re hamstrung by Financial Fair Play, sacking a manager who’s just sold one of our best players because he fell out with him, we’re just six points above the drop zone and set for another search for a new boss.

Just give Ferguson the job.

A lot of us would have been happy for the former Scotland international to get the job in the summer when Carlo Ancelotti left.

Big Dunc is a true Blue. His heart is in the club and when he managed us in an interim capacity in 2019, he did a really good job.

We’d back him, 100 per cent.
