Everton in hunt to sign creative midfield maestro, assisted 14 goals in 2021

CF Montreal midfielder Djordje Mihailovic is attracting a lot of interest from Europe and Everton are among those in the race for the United States international, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The 23-year-old had a sensational 2021 season in the MLS assisting 14 times for the Canadian side and scoring four of his own from midfield.

The Toffees face a lot of competition for Mihailovic with Leeds and Newcastle the challengers closest to home.

Roma, Atalanta and Bologna are the trio named from Italy with Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund from Germany also in the hunt.

Jeunes Footeux also names OGC Nice in France along with two further unnamed clubs from Ligue 1 who are keen on the American.

A deal for the 23-year-old would likely cost around £6.6million which is comfortably affordable for Farhad Moshiri and Everton.

Frank Lampard went big on transfer deadline day in January by signing two midfielders from elsewhere in the Premier League and he still isn’t satisfied.

Donny van de Beek is only on loan from Manchester United so may need replacing regardless but Dele Alli can’t get a start at the moment despite his last-ditch move from Tottenham Hotspur.

It seems like the boss doesn’t have the trust of Alli and he isn’t entirely happy with the players he already has in the middle of the park.

Abdoulaye Doucoure’s return from injury certainly helps but Andre Gomes hasn’t lit up the pitch like he can and Allan’s age may be pushing him down the pecking order fairly soon.

So while Mihailovic might be a left-field signing from the MLS, it would make perfect sense to add another body in the area and for such a small price, it seems too good to be true.
