Eric Dier, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, is reportedly being targeted by AS Roma in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to Romagiallorossa.it, Dier could face a tough situation if the new Tottenham manager decides to switch to a back four formation, as opposed to Antonio Conte’s preferred back three formation where Dier played a constant role in the centre of the defense.
Roma’s Sporting Director, Tiago Pinto, has reportedly initiated talks over a potential move for the 29-year-old defender, whose contract with Tottenham runs out in 2024. The move to Rome would also see Dier reunite with his former manager at Tottenham, Jose Mourinho, who signed the defender during his time at the London club and played him in 57 games.
Dier has played the third-most league minutes of any Tottenham player this season, and his low injury history makes him an attractive signing for the Giallorossi. With plenty of time left on his side, Dier’s experience and versatility could prove to be an asset for Roma in the long run.
While it remains to be seen if the transfer goes through, Dier’s familiarity with Mourinho and the Portuguese manager’s knowledge of the defender’s abilities could help facilitate the negotiations. It will be interesting to see if Dier is able to make an impact in Rome, should the transfer come to fruition.
