Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter after picking up on something strange during José Mourinho’s first press conference as Roma boss.
Well, when – unsurprisingly – talking up his past achievements throughout his managerial career, Mourinho mentioned Tottenham.
The 58-year-old claims he led his Spurs side to the Europa League after Mauricio Pochettino had finished 12th the season before.
Now, that simply isn’t true. Tottenham finished fourth the year before Mourinho arrived, after reaching the Champions League final.
Some argued in defence of Mourinho.
Some fans wrote that it could be a mistranslation from Sky Sports and he meant to say the exact moment when he took over from Pochettino.
However, as the BBC reveal, Tottenham were 14th when Mourinho was appointed, so we’re not really sure what he’s on about.
To make out as if he saved a struggling Tottenham side and guided them to sixth is just pure falsification from the Portuguese coach.
Surely, this is Mourinho’s last chance at a job in Europe’s top five leagues.
The ex-Real Madrid boss has been sacked from his last three roles at Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.
Now, he finds himself at Roma, where he has to prove himself all over again.
In truth, this was the case when Daniel Levy made the bizarre decision to sack Pochettino and hire Mourinho.
He had shown nothing to suggest he still had the power to succeed in England, but nevertheless, Spurs took a gamble.
Now, they’ve taken huge backward steps from the Pochettino days.
Nevertheless, let’s hope Nuno Espirito Santo can bring the good old days back to N17.
For now, let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about Mourinho’s comment…
