Carlo Ancelotti sends drop hint to Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate after Everton defeat

Carlo Ancelotti has hinted he will make changes at centre-half for next weekend’s game with West Ham United.

The Everton boss was struggling to explain the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last night, the performance of his players and the team’s on-going problems at Goodison.

But Ancelotti has suggested that he will look to get the Blues’ European hopes back on track next weekend with some changes at the back.

Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey kept their place at the heart of the defence following an excellent showing in the win over Arsenal eight days earlier.

But Holgate gifted Villa the opening goal and both players had their hands full with Ollie Watkins throughout the evening.

“We had problems against Ollie Watkins who did really well,” Ancelotti added.

“I have to say, it was a completely different performance of Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate from the performance they had a week ago.

“They played in this game because of what they did against Arsenal.”
