Phil McNulty was impressed with the performances of Everton ace Jordan Pickford in England’s win over Switerzland on Saturday.
The Three Lions registered a 2-1 victory and their number one goalkeeper was the star of the show.
He made some impressive saves on the evening and he is yet to make a single error leading directly to a goal.
BBC’s McNulty wrote on his personal Twitter handle, “OPTA stats on Jordan Pickford. 43 England caps. 20 clean sheets and not one error directly leading to a goal. Southgate’s loyalty is merited and excellent again today. Good record.”
Pickford appears so unconvincing in goal for Everton but is a world beater when he dons the Three Lions jersey.
It is hard to explain why we see such Jekyll and Hyde performances from the 27-year-old.
He is clearly an extremely talented keeper who’s adapted perfectly to the modern game.
Possibly, at Everton he’s not able to trust the players ahead of him to do a good job.
The England defence is so well-coached and it could seen at the EUROs when they conceded just one open play goal.
The onus is on Frank Lampard or whoever is in charge next season to get Pickford on board and ensure that he puts in the same level of performances for his club as he does for his country.
