Speaking to Bettingodds.com (h/t Express), former Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson has advised Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho to sign for Tottenham Hotspur over Arsenal.
The 29-year-old has had a tumultuous career at the Nou Camp since making an earth-shattering move worth £146million (including add-ons) to the Blaugrana from Liverpool. Moreover, things have not changed under Ronald Koeman either and the attacker is now linked with both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
Spurs, who possess, the likes of Bryan Gil, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn, and Son Heung-min in the winger roles, could use a creative influx like Coutinho.
Glen Johnson also believes that the former Liverpool playmaker should sign for the Lilywhites instead of Arsenal as he feels the Gunners are ‘far away from qualifying for the Champions League’. Johnson told Bettingodds.com (h/t The Express):
“He’s (Coutinho) linked with the two big north London clubs, and if he was to go to one of them, then I’d say Tottenham if I’m being honest.”
The former England international also lauded the Brazilian’s quality and backs him to do well under a manager who believes in him.
“Philippe absolutely has the ability and character to do great things, he just needs a bit of luck. When he’s playing under a manager who believes in him, you will get the best out of him. So I think as long as he gets a chance to play, then I believe he’ll become a fantastic player for someone again.”
