Ashley Young Receives Standing Ovation from Everton Teammates

Ashley Young etched his name into Premier League history on Sunday, becoming the oldest player to score directly from a free-kick in the competition. The 39-year-old’s sublime curling strike in Everton’s clash against Wolves also made him the club’s oldest-ever goalscorer.

The veteran full-back’s standout performance, which earned him the Man of the Match award, wasn’t limited to his offensive contribution. Young showcased his defensive prowess, registering seven tackles and displaying the energy and leadership that have defined his enduring career.

Everton manager Sean Dyche revealed the significance of Young’s impact, sharing a behind-the-scenes moment in the dressing room.

“Yeah, tremendous, tremendous,” Dyche said. “He’s just got a round of applause from his teammates. They know what he brings, they know what he’s about. You know, I just wish I could have had him at 26—it’s as simple as that. What a player.”

The applause highlighted the respect and admiration Ashley Young commands among his peers, as he continues to defy age and deliver at the highest level.
