Tanguy Ndombele has unsolved issues at Tottenham reckons, Noel Whelan as he starts the reign of Nuno Espirito Santo struggling for a place in the team, again.
The Frenchman joined them from Lyon in 2019 shortly after they have lost the UEFA Champions League final to Liverpool and he was expected to become a top replacement for the impressive Mousa Dembele.
Ndombele’s arrival coincided with a poor time for the club and Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino.
The Portuguese manager quickly identified him as one player who wasn’t pulling his weight and subsequently dropped him.
Ndombele picked up some excellent form last season, but he seems to have suffered a relapse and is back to his bad habits now.
Nuno Santo didn’t select him for Tottenham’s league opener against Manchester City and former Leeds striker, Whelan believes it is partly because the Frenchman has issues he needs to sort out.
“Ndombele has been a bit of a problem from the time he got there,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“Even though he’s an exceptionally talented player, it just doesn’t seem to be the right fit for club and player since he arrived.
“I don’t know him as a person but I know from sources there’s been issues there with the club and managers that have been there with him.
“He struggled with discipline in lockdown when he should have been doing the right thing and he didn’t.
“I think there’s been a few issues there that you wouldn’t expect from a professional football player that costs you nearly £80million.”
