Paul Merson has told Southampton star James Ward-Prowse that a move to West Ham would be a very good one for him to make
He notched up 11 goals and eight assists in 42 league and cup appearances last term despite the fact that the Saints had an up and down season under Ralph Hasenhuttl – and he is tipped to leave the Saints this summer
All the big clubs are keeping a very close eye on his this season and there is a feeling that a massive transfer offer will be made at some point over the next few months – and The Hammers are reportedly interested
However – the latest reports in the media have claimed that Ward-prowse has already made the decision that he will not be leaving the Saints this summer and will instead stay put – just like he has in previous windows
Now – amid all the speculation – Ward-Prowse has been told that a move to The Hammers would be good move as they will finish above the Saints next season.
Merson told the Daily Star: “If James Ward-Prowse takes the soft option and stays at Southampton. I start to worry when that happens when a player plays it safe like that.
“What are you going to do, realistically, at Southampton? West Ham wanted Ward-Prowse and that would have been a good move for him too because they will finish above Saints.
“But I said before that Arsenal should have gone in for him. The thing is, if he’s staying at Southampton, maybe he doesn’t have the ambition?”
There is no doubt that Ward-Prowse would be a very good signing for The Hammers – he really is a brilliant midfielder
It is a shame that he wants to stay put – we agree with Merson – West Ham would be a good move for him to make
