Tottenham will reportedly make Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie their number one target in January, after both Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte agreed on his potential.
According to The Express, Conte and Paratici are in agreement when it comes to McKennie, and Spurs are now expected to progress with their attempts to do a deal in January.
It follows on from reports from Calciomercato in Italy. They had suggested that both West Ham and Tottenham wanted McKennie, and could be prepared to pay around £29m for the USA star.
Tottenham are expected to back Conte in January. Daniel Levy made the quick decision to replace Nuno Santo a few weeks back and is expected to give his new man money to spend in January.
At £29m, McKennie would enter the top ten list of record buys for Tottenham. Indeed, according to Transfermarkt, that figure would put him at number four on the all-time list.
Spurs take on Leeds United this weekend as Conte looks to get his first Premier League win.
There is no doubt the Spurs midfield could do with shaking up. Players have gone a bit stale, so unless Conte can turn a few around then it needs changing.
The likes of Winks and Alli are prime candidates to move, while Oliver Skipp is still a young man learning the game. McKennie, then, would be a sensible and smart signing in the middle of the park.
McKennie is well known to Conte and Paratici anyway. Ultimately, this is what Conte will want. Players who he knows he can trust and who he knows can improve his squad.
£29m is a decent chunk of change. But Tottenham do have money, and with Conte in charge, they’re in a position where they can’t really say no to new signings.
