According to The Athletic, Josko Gvardiol of RB Leipzig is now Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte’s top defensive target for the upcoming summer transfer window, writes the TBR.
Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are undisputed starters at Tottenham at the moment, while Conte has preferred Ben Davies on the left side of his back three.
However, as good as the Welshman has been, it’s clear that Spurs will try to upgrade him in the summer.
Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of defenders over the last few months but the report now claims that Gvardiol is the one Spurs desperately want. But, he’ll cost an absolute fortune.
Gvardiol is still only 20 and is playing his first-ever season at a top European league. However, he is already one of the hottest properties on the continent and multiple top clubs are looking at him.
The 20-year-old has played on the left side of a back-three for Leipzig this term, which is exactly where Conte sees him. The Croatian can also play at left-back, which is a bonus.
Leipzig absolutely love Gvardiol and rate him very highly. That’s the reason why it has been claimed that Spurs would have to break their transfer record to secure his signature this summer.
Tottenham’s current transfer record stands at £53.8 million, which is the mammoth fee they paid to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon back in the summer of 2019. (BBC)
